Making Moving A Step-By-Step Process To Eliminate Stress

Posted on

Moving doesn't have to be all hectic and stressful. If you take the move one step at a time, you can get through it little by little over the course of a few weeks and everything will get done without all of the anxiety that comes with waiting until the week before moving day to get it all done.

Utilize Mobile Storage Units

Three or four weeks before it's time to move into the new house, lease a mobile storage unit. These units are delivered right to your driveway and dropped off for you to fill at your leisure. Think about all of the things around your house that you won't be needing for the next month or two – like the stuff stored in your attic, garage and basement. These things can all be packed into a mobile storage unit and sent off to be stored until you are settled into your new house. Then, when you're ready, call to have the unit delivered to the new house and unload it at your leisure.

You can even use multiple mobile units through the packing process. As moving day gets closer, you can get a second unit delivered and begin filling it with things that you will need sooner than the stuff that you packed in the first unit. Packing in phases will help to remove much of the stress of packing up the days before the move. For more information, talk to a professional like AA All American Airborne Self-Storage.

Banking and Finances

About a month before your move, you can begin contacting all of your creditors and your bank to inform them of the change in address. Your bank will need a little time to get your new checks printed and mailed out to you, so giving them a few weeks advance notice can help things go more smoothly. Just provide the companies with the date that you expect to be moved in so that they can officially change the address on your accounts effective that day.

School Information

If you have children, you can begin getting the academic records in order for the new school about a month in advance. In some cases, you will need to go to the school to sign a release form before they will transfer the files to the new school, but other times, a quick phone call is all that is needed.

Getting a head-start on the move will eliminate a lot of the stress that you will feel. Sure, you will still be stressed, but having a lot of this done before it is time to uproot the family and move into the new house will make things much better for you and everyone you come into contact with.
