Tips For Putting Things In A Mini Storage Building

Posted on

If you have to move out of your current home and it's going to be a while until you can move into your new home, then you will need somewhere to store your belongings until you can move them into the new place. By following the advice given in this article, you will know how to pack to save space and fit your items in a mini storage building so they won't get damaged during the process.

Pack with the right boxes

The first thing you want to do is make sure you choose the right boxes. If you can, it's best to use plastic storage bins of the same size. The plastic bins keep dust and pests out and they have convenient handles. Also, packing with boxes of the same size makes it easy to fit them safely in the storage building.

If you are on a budget and need to go with cardboard boxes, try to get the thickest ones possible, also in the same size. Don't close the bottom by putting the flaps over and under one another. Instead, it's much better to put the small flaps over and then the large ones. Use packing tape to secure the bottom of the box. This helps you create a much more secure box, so the bottom won't end up falling out on you.

Pack some items in bags

You can pack certain items in plastic bags. This will protect those items and allow you to use the bags as a way to fill in some of the gaps in the storage building. This means you can fit more of your things in less space. Some examples of items that go well in bags include throw pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, towels and other linens.

Along with using the bags as space holders, you can also put them on top of other items in the storage building that you wouldn't be able to fit boxes in. This would leave you with empty space and that means you take up more floor space than you need.

Pack appliances in back and work forward from there

Appliances and large furnishings should be put in the back of the building, placing only lightweight boxes and bags on top of them, as high as you safely can. Next, place items you know you won't need access to and work your way up to the front with items you may need to access. This way, you won't need to dig through the building to get to something in the center, which takes time and energy and also increases your chances of breaking things.

Packing in this manner will help you to use all the space in the mini storage building efficiently and make it easy for you to get at anything you need in the future. Contact a business, such as Gray Storage Solutions, for more information.
